Symptoms of worn out of head gasket

A burn out head gasket is bad things for your car. It's Very bad news. If your car's head gasket is worn out then you must take an immediate attention and change it as soon as possible.

A head gasket may damages due to may other reasons on which I will make another Blog post seperately on mechanic Adda.

But in this article we will discuss about what are the symptoms of a worn out of head gasket.

We tell you how you will identify that your car's head gasket is burn out.

Mainly head gaskets fail when the head and the engine body heat up and cool down continually at different rates, and during this continually heating and cooling gasket can't seal the newly expanded gap of engine  .

This issue is arises due to worst combination of metals used for making a engine.

Like some car's engine which use an iron cylinder block and an aluminum head. And both metals have different different rate of cooling.

Some engines are just designed with poor clamping force from the head bolts, or have heads prone to warping, and a reputation for failure.

Symptoms of worn out of head gasket

Once a head gasket has failed it can cause of some problems, like-:

    1) Overheating

A head gasket failure may be one of the major cause of overheating of an engine.

When head gasket blow down then hot gases may leak into the cylinder cooling block and mixed with the water/coolant or coolant may leak and comes into the cylinder and be burned off as steam, that this leakage can be the reason for overhang of the engine.

Too many times when some systems like  clogged radiator, coolant leak, faulty fan, etc, may cause of overheating of engine but the blown head gasket can also cause the engine to overheat.

If drive the car  in overheating condition  it can also results in the alloy cylinder head warping, or steam damaging the catalytic converter.

    2) Loss of power

If the head gasket get damaged in such a way then it allows the compressed air/fuel compression to escape from the cylinder, and by this compression of that cylinder/engine is reduced.

Due to this loss of compression results in a hard  running engine and a reduction in engine power noticed. This type of power loss is not economical.

    3) Mix up of coolant, oil and contaminants

One of the most common signs of head gasket failure in this failure the milky sludge comes out on the underside of the oil filler cap or at the dipstick.

This Milky sludge comes out due to the coolant mixed with the oil, or vice versa.
But this is not a conclusive proof of head gasket blow down but this is generally a good indicator and and this indicates that your engine needs to check up to find out the source of contamination.

And this contamination will quickly ruin the engine’s bearings due to rubbing phenomenon.

To remove we requires to flush  engine oil as well as a replacement oil filter, and  disassembly of the bottom end of the engine (oil pan) to ensure the bearings aren't damaged and there is no contaminated oil.

    4) White Smoke

A blow down head gasket most often results in formation of clouds of sweet-smelling white smoke coming from the trail pipe. This smoke is mainly formed by  leaking antifreeze from faulty head gasket and burns  inside of the engine cylinders,

where it is take a form of steam as it take a part of the combustion process, when coolant is a leak from an oil passage to the cylinder, which would cause to blueish smoke.

these types of gasket failure will also transmit combustion pressure into the cooling system/oil breather system.

    5): Car Won't Start

This is also one sign of blow down of head gasket.
By this your car will not start.

The engine turns on but doesn't start

Each time the engine rotates, due to this engine rotation battery dies very faster.

And due to this the starter runs but, the engine will not ignite/start.

And due to this spark does not ignited the cylinder.

These symptoms are often occurs when your engine's head gasket is burn out.
Fouled-up head gasket has created enough of an clearance between the cylinder head and block of the engine that it's not able to build up any compression, thereby preventing any spark or combustion.
