What is ABS System in car and how does it work for better handling of car?
The anti-lock braking system (ABS) is a active type safety features of a car and now this feature is mandatory in india since BS 6 implementation
So every model of car now come with this safety features.
Anti lock breaking system (ABS) come in car to prevent the car's wheel to slip or lock up when breaks are applied to the wheel.
Using ABS System wheels are make a proper grip with the read.
And this improve the handling of the car.
HISTORY
ABS was first introduced as an anti-skid system for aircraft use in the 1950s. And in the 1970s, Ford and Chrysler proved that it can also be fitted into cars.Anti-lock braking systems are now present in all modern cars sold in India.
How does it work?
ABS System is a part of overall stability system commonly known for electronic stability control which control and moniter every individual wheelFor proper stability with the help of sensors attached with it.
In ABS System every wheel have a sensor for measuring the speed and break padel force.
These sensors are detect the motion of wheel means when we apply the break they got lock up and wheels are being slides to prevent from this these sensors release the break for few moments.
ABS System continuously repeatedly apply break padel force to each wheel that they didn't locked up
FEELING OF ABS
When the ABS System is active then you feel continue pulsation on the break padel as you feel that you are pressing the break padel. This ABS System help the driver to remain in control with the car when applying the break.
It reduces the risk of skidding even This is why it’s important to remember that the car’s braking distance may be increase but not enough.

Advantages of anti-lock brakes
Shorter stopping distances: Anti-lock brakes may reduce braking distances in some conditions as the wheel does skidding.
Stopping on wet surface: ABS avoids
Skidding on wet surfaces thus it has great ability to stop om wet surfaces.
Steer under braking: Anti lock brakes allow you to steer your car around some obstacles and ensure to keep your car in control whether road is wet or dry.
Disadvantages of anti-lock brakes
The main disadvantage of ABS brakes is the increase the overall cost it adds to the overall maintenance of a vehicle. maintenance costs go up due to the sensors on each wheel are expensive and get heavy in the cost if they become out of calibration.
To initiate ABS System we need to apply foot power to the padel
This ABS System in some conditions increase the stopping distance that may increase the chances of collision.
This ABS System is a part of EBD which creates more problem with maintenance.
And this increase the overall level of difficulty with the system.
