Clutch?? Do you know! if yes then check what is multiplate clutch singleplate clutch wet clutch dry clutch

PURPOSE OF CLUTCH OR TYPE OF CLUTCH UESD BY AUTOMOBILE/VEHICLE IN DETAIL

In vehicles with a manual transmission or manual transaxle the power flows
through a clutch. This device engages and disengages the manual transmissionsor transaxle and thus the engine. When the drive pushes the clutch down, the
clutch disconnects or disengages from the engine flywheel. No engine power
can flow to the transmission or transaxle. When the drive releases the clutch
pedal the clutch engages. this enables power to flow to the transmission.

    FUNCTIONS OF CLUTCH:-
    The clutch has four functions:
    1. It are often disengaged. this enables engine cranking and permits the engine
to run freely without forwarding power to the transmission system

    2. While disengaged it doesn't permits the driver to shift the transmission into various gears.

    3. While engaging, the clutch slips momentarily. This provides smooth engagements
and reduce the vibration on gears, shafts, and other drive train parts.

    4. When engaged, the clutch transmit power from the engine to the transmission system
    All slipping has stopped.

    REQUIREMENTS OF CLUTCH

    1. Torque transmission
The clutch should be able to transmit the utmost torque of the engine under
    all condition.

    2. Gradual engagement
The clutch should take the drive gradually without any
    of sudden jerks.

    3. cooling
During clutch application batch of heat are generated. The rubbing
surfaces should have the sufficient area and thus the mass to need in heat.

    4. Dynamic balancing
This is necessary particularly within the high speed clutches.

    5. Size
The size of the clutch must be smallest possible so on occupy minimum
    amount of space.

    6. Vibration Damping
Proper mechanism should be used in  the clutch, to eliminate noise produced
    in the transmission of power

    7. Inertia
The clutch rotating parts should have minimum inertia. Otherwise, when the
clutch is released for gear changing, the clutch plate will keep it up spinning causing
hard shifting and kit clashing in spite of synchronisation.

    8. Clutch free pedal play
To reduce effective clamping load on the carbon bearing and wear there
of sufficient free pedal play must be provided within the clutch.

    9. simple operation
For higher torque transmission the operation of disengaging the clutch should be easy for the drive .

    TYPES OF CLUTCH
The following are the foremost kinds of clutches.

    2. Friction clutches

    2.positive clutch (dog clutch)

In this article we will know about friction clutch Friction clutch:

In this type of clutch need friction force to engage and disengage the clutch. A friction plate is inserted between the driving member and therefore the driven member of the clutch. When the driving force releases the clutch , the driven member and driving member of clutch, comes in touch with one another . A friction force works between these two parts. So when the driving member revolves, it makes revolve the driven member of clutch and therefore the clutch is in engage position.
Friction clutches are further classified into

    A.) Cone clutch
In this type of clutch a cone mounted on the driven member and the shape of the sides of the flywheel is also designed as the conical. The surfaces of contact are touched with the friction lining. The cone can be engage and disengage from flywheel by the clutch pedal.

    B.) Single plate clutch:
In this single plate clutch a flywheel is fixed to the engine shaft and a pressure plate is attached to the gear box axel. This pressure plate is free to move on the spindle of the axel. A friction plate is placed between the flywheel and pressure plate. Some springs are installed here into compressed position between these plates. When the clutch pedal releases then the pressure plate apply a force on the friction plate due to spring action. So clutch is in engage position. When the driver pushes the clutch pedal, due to its mechanism, it disengaged from the clutch

    C.) Multi-plate clutch:
Multi-plate clutch is as same as the single plate clutch but there is two or more clutch plates are installed between the flywheel and pressure plate. This clutch is more useful than single plate clutch for same transmission of torque.

    D) Diaphragm clutch:
This clutch is similar to the single plate clutch except diaphragm spring is used in place of coil springs for applying pressure on the pressure plate .
In the coil springs, one big problem occur that these springs does not distribute the spring force uniformly. To remove this problem, diaphragm springs are used into clutches. This clutch is known as diaphragm clutch.
