Crankshaft Vs Camshaft basic of working

    Crankshaft Vs Camshaft

Camshaft and crankshaft perform separate to each other in there functions, but must work together to achive better engine operation optimization.

How Do Camshafts and Crankshafts Work Together?

A camshaft is used for opening and closing the valves (intake & exhaust)
Where there crankshaft used to convert the linear up down motion into rotational motion.

Both are different in there functions but they are attached to each other in order to ensure the proper engine optimization.

What Is a Camshaft [functions] ?

Camshaft is s Important parts of the engine.
And this part is generally located at the top of the engine cylinder.

ACCORDING TO LOCATION CAMSHAFT IS DIVIDED INTO TWO PARTS
    OHC. Over head camshaft
    UHC. Under head camshaft.

Camshaft is a that part which allow the valves to open and to enters the air inside the cylinder and close for combustion,
And again open for exit of burnt gases get out from the cylinder.

Camshaft are designed according to the number of valves per cylinder.

If there is only two valve then single cam is used,
If there is three or four valves then we use two cams. One for intake valve and second for exhaust valve.

    How Does a Camshaft Work?

Camshaft is a rotating part so it needs s driving system,  Generally the camshaft takes the drive from the crankshaft.

Drive through the crankshaft comes in various ways such as:-
    By chain drive.
    By belt drive.
By various parts of the valve train valve lifter, pushrod, valve spring, valve and tappet or rocker arm.

By these methods crankshaft deliver drive to the camshaft to open and close the valves.

To operates the valve opening and closing a cam lob is designed at the camshaft, this control the valve opening time.
In modern I.C. engine we use two camshaft to achive better efficiency/power

    What Is a Crankshaft?

Crankshaft is a most important part of a reciprocating I. C. Engine
It converts the reciprocating motion into circular motion.

Crankshaft is located at the bottom of engine.

During the power stroke when piston moves downward then creat a reciprocating motion,
And this reciprocating motion is converted into the rotational motion by the help of using crankshaft.

    How Does a Crankshaft Work?

As we read that working of crankshaft is to convert the reciprocating motion into rotation motion.

    But how let's know:-
Crankshaft is attached to the piston with connecting rod, when air fuel mixture ignite inside the cylinder then a massive force exerted on the piston thus piston moves downward and allow the crankshaft to move in rotational motion.

How Do Camshafts and Crankshafts Work Together?

Crankshaft and camshaft are attached to each other with the help of timing chain, timing belt or with gears, to control the perfect valve timing for better energy output.

    Generally
For heigher end engine we use timing chain/gear.

These are located at the front of the engine, and cover up with timing plate.
In four stroke engine [Suction, compression, expension and exhaust]
The crankshaft rotates 720° means in every single cycle crankshaft rotates for 2 revolution.
During this rotation camshaft rotates only 1 revolution

    Crank:cam : : 2:1
This is how crankshaft and camshaft works together.
