Different types of fuelling system, and carburetor Vs fuel injector.

    carburetor Vs fuel injector

    Carburetion VS Fuel Injection

Fuel injection system in a motorcycle are fast growing system now a days
And this Fuel injection system now overtaking carburettor fastly.

Now, almost every motorbike comes with fuel injection system (FI SYSTEM)
And some of them still using carburettor due to its reliability, serviceability and tune ability
But people says that Fuel injection system is way better than carburettor system.

So let's see how both of them works and what is there is main advantage and disadvantage?
    Let's see this.

    Carburetion

Carburettor is the most basic and most used fuelling system for two wheelers
And this fuelling system is widely used in indian motorcycle now till days.

    Explanation
Carburettor is a fully mechnical device which has no electronic sensor.
The basic working of this carburettor system is a place where fuel and air mix-up for completing the combination phenomenon.

It is a tube type design that take air from aur filter which is attached at one end in the middle some where the area of this pipe has very narrow openin to increase the velocity of the air,  some like VENTURI.

Due to narrow opening a low pressure zone is created which suck the fuel from the fuel plate that is placed under   this tube.

Sucking of fuel is based on the principal of Bernauli's principal

The velocity of a fluid (or air) passing through a tube is inversely proportional to the pressure created by it
The amount of sucked air is decided by a throttle valve which is connected to the accelerator with a wire

When we accelerate bike then throttle valve open and allow much air flow and when dis accelerate then opening of throttle valve be less and then less air flow inside the chamber

A fuel cup/jet is placed near the Venturi and this is connected to the fuel tank
There is a floating valve which control the fuel supply

When fuel jet/cup is open according to air pressure is allow fuel to come inside
If the fuel jet/cup is full then it cut the fuel supply thus it controls the fuel supply.

When fuel is comes then it mix-up with air and flow inside the combustion chamber to ignite.
This is a basic working fundamental of a carburettor.

There is some modern carburetors like constant velocity or CV carburetors are generally more complex in design. These carburetors  uses of components like a diaphragm, needle valve and pilot jet to control the air-fuel mixture.

    Fuel Injection
Fuel injection system is also a fuelling system for the bikes and cars
But this is totally different from carburetor's function
Where CARBURETORS is totally mechnical device.
There FUEL INJECTION system is fully electronic system.

It sends fuel to cylinder by collecting data from various sensers
So this fuelling system is more reliable than carburetor fuelling system.

It is over the head of cylinder
Fuelling system in case of FI  is controlled by ECU (Electronic control unit) which takes data from various sources(Based on a whole variety of parameters such as engine speed, throttle position, engine temperature and load etc)  and calculate them after calculation it delever air fuel mixture in right amount at right time by this combustion of fuel be most effectively.

    Advantages of carburetors

Carburetor is a simple mechanical device which is simple in operation and easy to repair.

Carburetor is less in cost and easy to replace.

Tunning of this system is very easy this can be tuned easily according to need.

Carburetor is not integrated part so it can be serviced easily.

    Disadvantages of carburetors

    Not more efficient in working.

Slow throttle response due to some lags.

Certain part of this fuelling system have tear and wear.

Air fuel mixture fluctuates, affecting engine smoothness

    Advantages of fuel injection
Proper air fuel mixture optimise overall efficiency

Allow atmoised air fuel mixture in side the cylinder for burning.

    Instant throttle response.

Better fuel efficiency and marginally more power than carbureted systems

    Disadvantages of fuel injection
Cast to fuel injector is slightly more than carburetor.

This can not been repaired easily
It is replaced which is expensive.

Can not be tuned easily because of it's electronic nature.
